About UNKNOWN

UNKNOWN provides social virtual reality (VR) gaming. It features multiplayer free-roam virtual reality experiences, powered by XIST technology.

Free-roam VR is a fun and exciting way to enjoy VR experiences with your friends in large playspaces, untethered from a desktop PC, letting you move around much as you would in the real world. No backpacks, no problem! The lightweight system means you can stay longer in the experience and enjoy it without being weighed-down and unbalanced by heavy equipment.

UNKNOWN's first location is Ber Street, Norwich, opening Saturday 9th April 2022.

UNKNOWN will be open 5pm-10pm on Thursdays and Fridays, and 12pm-10pm on weekends.

Keep an eye on our website, sign up to our social media channels or sign up to our mailing list for the latest experience updates. New games will be dropping throughout 2022.

Tickets and pricing

Ticket prices are dependent on the experience. We cost the sessions based on a full number of players, for example an £60 experience is for 4 players (£15pp). You’re more than welcome to play with fewer people, but the session cost will remain the same.

Simply click the ‘book tickets’ button on the website, select your desired date and session time and fill in the booking form. We use a highly secure payment gateway to keep your details safe.

The number of players varies from experience to experience. You're welcome to bring along friends, family and colleagues to watch on-screen outside of the gaming arena. Please note, space in the area is limited and allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Visit the reception desk and one of our team will be able to sign you in. Please arrive 15 minutes before your session is due to start so we can check you in promptly.

Yes, our customer check-in is based on your booking confirmation. If you’re personally unable to make your slot and would like to pass it on to someone else, just ensure that they have the confirmation email on their device or printed out to show at the point of check-in.

Yes, speak to one of our team on reception and they will be able to book your session at the venue. Please note that we cannot guarantee availability on the day.

Cancellations, refunds and late arrivals policy

Except under special circumstances, we only offer refunds when sessions are cancelled due to a sustained technical error. In all instances where a session is cancelled for a technical problem, an alternative session is offered instead. If the alternative session time is also cancelled due to ongoing technical issues, we will offer you a full refund.

Each group has a dedicated time slot so it is essential that all attendees arrive 15 minutes in advance of their session. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate guests who arrive after the start of their dedicated time slot, and we are unable to offer refunds if you’re late for a booked session.

If your session has to be cancelled completely due to a technical error, we will offer you an alternative slot. If that slot is also cancelled due to a technical error, we will offer you a full refund.

If a technical error occurs during the experience itself, our team will take a view of the individual situation. As a rule, if any disruption happens early on in the experience and we cannot fix it, we will offer you a refund. However, if any disruption occurs after the majority of the experience has been completed and is fixed quickly, we are unable to offer a refund.

Health and safety information

Our experiences are adventures into a new reality with certain games featuring content that’s unsuitable for younger audiences, so parental discretion is advised. For health and safety reasons there is a strict age limit of 12 years old and all players under the age of 16 must be accompanied to the venue by an adult, however the adult does not need to enter the experience.

All players must sign a waiver before they can play and parents/guardians must sign waivers on behalf of players under the age of 16 before they will be allowed to play. This must be signed in person and proof of ID provided.

Like any active public activity there is a small risk of injury and, while every precaution is taken for your safety, we ask you to sign the liability waiver in order to confirm that you understand the risks and are participating, or giving permission for a minor in your care, to participate at your own risk. If you do not sign, we are unable to let you enter the experience.

To be able to take part, you will need to have a good degree of mobility. The experience requires you to walk unassisted for 20 minutes continuously, with full use of both your hands. The experience also uses flashing lights and loud, sudden noises. Therefore, for safety reasons, you will not be able to take part if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Epilepsy and/or similar seizure conditions

  • Deaf or severe hearing loss

  • Broken limbs, specifically legs, arms or feet

  • Any heart condition

  • If you are heavily pregnant.

Please note, VR experiences are not suitable for people with inner ear or balance impairments. Participating in VR experiences can induce a feeling of nausea or motion sickness in some people, so if you are particularly prone to motion sickness or vertigo you may not feel comfortable taking part. Should you begin to experience a feeling of nausea or vertigo, you should remove the headset immediately and signal to the chaperone for assistance.

Each session is chaperoned by a staff member who is there to ensure both the safety of each player and to make sure everyone conducts themselves appropriately within the experience.

You’ll be briefed on acceptable behaviour and safety rules during the initial introduction when you arrive. Don’t worry, the rules are very simple! Once inside the headset there are warning systems to tell you when you are too close to the walls and physical elements within the playspace, when someone is in your periphery or when the chaperone has deemed you are breaking the safety rules.

If you get 3 warnings from the chaperone then your play session will be brought to an end early and you will not receive a refund.

When creating the experience, we have followed best practice to minimise the risks of motion sickness but there is still a small chance you may feel nauseous or vertigo, especially if you are prone to motion sickness or have inner ear problems. Should you begin to experience a feeling of nausea or vertigo, you should remove the headset immediately and signal to the chaperone for assistance.

Headsets can be worn with small framed glasses, however the experience will be more comfortable with contact lenses if it’s possible for you to wear them. Please note, VR is not suitable for people with severe visual impairments such as cataracts, tunnel vision or macular degeneration.

The experience audio is delivered by a surround-sound system within the playspace. It’s therefore possible to wear hearing aids but please note, the audio is not on a hearing loop.

Yes, the equipment is always cleaned between sessions. We use Pico Neo headsets that have an easy-clean breathable rubber surface and we sterilise both the headsets and the gun controllers with antibacterial spray and wipes. If you have any concerns about this, please speak to a member of staff before you use any of the equipment.

Like any active public activity there is a small risk of injury and, while every precaution is taken for your safety, we ask you to sign the liability waiver in order to confirm that you understand the risks and are participating, or giving permission for a minor in your care, to participate at your own risk. If you do not sign, we are unable to let you use the XIST experience.

Venue information and what to expect

There is on-site parking available at the venue although we cannot guarantee availability. Norwich city centre has plentiful parking too.

Our venue doesn't offer food and drink but there are a number of restaurants and food outlets in and around Norwich.

If you're taking part in a VR experience please make sure you wear comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear. We recommend trainers or flat shoes/boots and comfortable clothing which allows you to move easily. Please note you will not be able to use the experience in high-heeled shoes or boots.

Please make sure you arrive 15 minutes ahead of your booking in order to check in. Each booking has a dedicated time slot and if you arrive after yours has begun, you may not be allowed entry.

There is a cloakroom at the venue for you to leave your belongings. Please note, these are left at your own risk and we accept no responsibility for theft. Mobile phones need to be turned off or placed in flight safe mode during the play session so as not to interfere with the experience, and we will check this is the case before you enter the experience.

If you are accompanying a player but are not planning on participating yourself, you can use our waiting area where you can watch the action on a big screen as a spectator. Please note, space in the area is limited and allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Dos and don'ts

You'll be able to purchase food and drink from our neighbours around Norwich, however please don't bring this into the gaming arena. There will be a cloakroom on-site for you to keep belongings safety stored throughout your session.
